Module I · Foundations

The Foundation

How money works: budgeting, debt, saving and credit. The basics every adult should know.

  1. 01What safe cash earns

The line behind this module is the 3-month Treasury bill: roughly what the safest cash pays. For ten years it paid almost nothing.

  2. 02What borrowing costs

Over the same years, credit cards charged 13% to 22%. Interest is one force, and it works for you or against you.

  3. 03$300 a month, saved

Kept in a drawer, in Treasury bills, or in an S&P 500 index fund. The dotted line is what it took just to keep up with prices.

  4. 04$300 a month, borrowed

The same $300 charged to a card every month and never paid down, at the average card rate. This is why debt comes first.

The light behind this module: the 3-month Treasury bill yield, December 2010 to October 2026: roughly what safe cash earned.

Rates · % a year

Real rates from the Federal Reserve (FRED): the 3-month Treasury bill, the credit card rate on accounts charged interest, and consumer prices. Index fund: SPY with dividends reinvested. Before taxes and fees. Past results don’t guarantee future results.

Module II · Character

Wealth Mindset & Psychology

Discipline, patience and faith: the person behind every trade.

  1. 01Fear, before the open

On 5 August 2024, Japan’s market fell 12.4% overnight. S&P 500 futures fell with it and hit their low at 8:32 AM.

  2. 02Two impulses

Fear says sell the low. Greed says chase the spike. That morning, each one was the worst price of the next hour.

  3. 03Size for the day you’re in

Each minute moved twice as far as on a normal day. The same dollar risk means a stop twice as wide and half the size.

  4. 04How the day ended

Price swung 159 points between the low and the high. A plan made before the open doesn’t have to guess which way.

  • Discipline
  • Patience
  • Emotions
  • Faith

The light behind this module: S&P 500 futures, minute by minute, on 5 August 2024, the day of the global sell-off.

ES · 1 minute

Real S&P 500 futures (ES) prices, every minute from 4 AM to 4 PM ET. A normal day: every regular-hours minute in the first half of 2025.

Module III · Craft

Active Trading

Reading charts and price movement, and managing risk on every position.

  1. 01Stop first

Before you enter, decide where you’re wrong. Here, 2 points under the swing low, on real S&P 500 futures in October 2024.

  2. 02Size from the stop

Risk 1% of the account. The distance to the stop decides how many contracts that buys, and you round down.

  3. 03Target 2R

The target sits twice the risk away. This one took a month to get there.

  4. 04Losing is part of it

The next trade hit its stop within a week. At 1% risk that’s a small, planned loss, and losing streaks are normal.

The light behind this module: S&P 500 futures, every trading day from June 2010 to October 2026.

ES · daily

Real S&P 500 futures (ES) daily prices. Sized in Micro E-mini contracts ($5 a point) on an example $50,000 account, before fees. Losing-streak odds: exact maths at a 55% win rate.

Module IV · Craft

Options

What options are, how they’re priced, and how to use them with defined risk. Here are four real trades, drawn on the chart: where each one makes money, where it loses, and what actually happened.

  1. 01Long call

Buy a call: the right to buy SPY at the strike. You make money if SPY finishes above breakeven. The most you can lose is what you paid.

  2. 02Long put

Buy a put: the right to sell SPY at the strike. You make money if SPY finishes below breakeven. The most you can lose is what you paid.

  3. 03Iron condor

Sell a put spread and a call spread. You keep the credit if SPY stays between the two short strikes. The outer strikes cap the loss.

  4. 04A long call, in a quiet month

A call needs a move bigger than its price. In a month when SPY barely moved, the whole premium was lost.

  • The Greeks
  • Defined risk

The light behind this module: SPY, every trading day since January 1993, dividends reinvested.

SPY · Long call

Real SPY prices and real option quotes (bid/ask midpoint at 3:59 PM ET on each entry day). Profit and loss at expiry for one contract (100 shares), before fees.

Module V · Craft

Institutional Price Action

Market structure, and how the biggest players move price.

  1. 01Structure

Lower highs and lower lows: sellers in control. Nasdaq-100 futures, hourly, over three days in February 2024.

  2. 02Liquidity

Stop orders collect under an obvious low. Price dipped just below it, filled them, and closed back above.

  3. 03The shift

One strong candle broke the last lower high. That’s a break of structure: buyers took control.

  4. 04The imbalance

The move left a gap that only one candle traded through. Price came back into it, held, and went on to new highs.

  • Auction theory
  • Structure
  • Liquidity
  • Order flow

The light behind this module: Nasdaq-100 futures, every session from September 2022 to October 2026.

NQ · 1 hour

Real Nasdaq-100 futures (NQ) hourly prices. The pattern was found by a fixed rule and drawn after the fact. Patterns are clearest in hindsight and don’t always work, which is why every trade still has a stop.

Module VI · Craft

Crypto & Alternative Assets

Digital assets and alternatives, approached with the same discipline.

  1. 01The ride

Bitcoin went from $27,945 to a peak of $124,720, then fell 53% in under nine months.

  2. 02The swings

Over three years, Bitcoin moved 4% or more in a day 109 times. SPY did it 4 times.

  3. 03Size for it

Risk the same $500 with a stop at twice the usual daily move, and the Bitcoin position is less than half the size.

  • Custody
  • Volatility
  • Alternatives

The light behind this module: Bitcoin, every day from October 2023 to October 2026.

BTC · daily

Real Bitcoin daily closes (Coinbase) and SPY with dividends reinvested, October 2023 to October 2026. The sizing is illustrative maths, not a recommendation.
